What causes my broadband speed(meg speed) to rise or fall?

I just tested my broadband speed on "Speedtest.net" and I received a 11.1 broadband speed the first couple tries and about 5 minutes later I try again and now I receive a 20.0 broadband speed. What causes my megs to rise or fall?
