How to know when to drop a course?

I'm debating whether to drop my photography course. I'm struggling with learning the camera functions and using them effectively. I'm really better at writing/analyzing things, my other two courses are English & History courses, which I'm not really worried about. Photoshop, but if you want the free thing which does almost anything download GIMP. The picture you posted is two pictures merged together. The way you would do this is by first taking your picture of yourself that you want, then finding a picture of the pretty stars, and in the program you would "Add Layer" and the stars will be the second layer, which laysover the picture of you, and then all you do is lower the opacity so it becomes translucent :)

Which Hawaiian island should I move to?

I am currently in college studying communications in south Florida. My major encompasses a little bit of everything dealing with media (photography, video, web design, etc.). I plan on moving to Hawaii after college but I don't know which island. I love the outdoors and if it has to do with nature, chances are I enjoy it. Hiking is awesome but I'm also open to trying just about anything else there is to try. I prefer freshwater over saltwater so it'd be cool if there were some freshwater swimming holes around to use in addition to the ocean. I'm not huge into partying or nightlife. A good campfire suits me better than any club. But I also want there to be some places I can go to shop, eat, and hang out when I want to. I'm not made of money so something affordable is a must, although I don't need a huge, luxurious house or anything like that. A home close to the beach that gets me by is good enough for me. I'm very laid back and pretty much just go with the flow. Any suggestions and additional information on the islands would be great. Thanks!

Why don't people date anymore?

About 10-20 years ago going on casual dates was more common, but in recent years there is no "dating process." From my experience asking someone out means that you want to have a serious relationship or something like that. I tend to look at dating as a chance to get to know someone that you could potentially have a relationship with i.e share similar interests are attracted to etc, and to see if they have similar feelings. In a nutshell, a date is almost like an informal "job interview" for lack of better word. I also don't see anything wrong with going on many dates with many different people IF YOU'RE SINGLE. I think it helps develop good communication skills in a relationship-like capacity. Here's a prime example: I asked a girl out to go on a nature photography hike, and then have a picnic at the end of it. I invited another couple I knew to join us so it could be really informal. She said no. But, it wasn't like I didn't know this girl. We had a lot of good conversation, and we seemed to have a lot in common. However, my view is that she interpreted my asking her out as a sign that I wanted her to be my girlfriend, which was an incorrect assumption. I just wanted to get to know her better, and see if I was really that interested in her...then maybe we would head in that direction. It was also kind of hurtful to infer that she had absolutely no interest in getting to know me better at all. Going on a date with someone is NOT a contract, contrary to popular belief. Nobody seems to think this way, and subsequently very few people casually date at all. In fact, the only dates I've ever been on, have either quickly resulted in a relationship that I didn't really want, or very angry girls thinking that I "led them on," when I told them that I really enjoyed our date, but that I was interested in seeing other people. People need to learn how to say what they mean, and not avoid uncomfortable confrontations. If someone asks you out, and they're a reasonable person, why not just go out with them, have a good time, get to know them, and if you have no romantic interests just say so. Why is so difficult for people to get this!!? I wonder if there are any sociological factors in our generation that influence this cultural manifestation? Any ideas? Thanks. This is so frustrating!

Laptop contrast/color temperature?

I am trying to calibrate my Dell Vostro 1510 laptop monitor. I have a Spider3 calibrator, and according to the instructions, I'm supposed to be sure my contrast is on default setting, and to change the color temperature to 6500K or equivalent. I've searched the internet, asked friends and looked everywhere on my computer to do that, and I can't figure it out. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I'm in photography school and I have about 24 hours worth of photoshopping photos to do within the next week, and my monitor colors are so far off that even attempting to edit anything now would be a serious waste of time and prove to be disastrous.

I recently got in my first physical fight?!?

Alright.. So I'm 20 years old and I was at a party.. A 28 year old mother of 2 shows up hammered out of her mind, and pretty angry. She started knocking beer bottles over and breaking glass everywhere.. Mind you its my friends parents house.. I told her to leave and that made her even more mad.. Why am I such an easy target?

I don't get bullied, but people seem to make fun of me a lot. Even if you get a point and shoot, it's better than taking photos with a phone. 35mm camera suggestions please?

I'm taking a photography class in the fall. I need to supply my own 35mm camera. Any suggestions? I'm an avid photographer and I've been told I'm talented but I've only ever used a digital camera. It's a pretty basic photography course. What kind should I get? Not something really expensive please :P do you think I should buy one in advance and learn a little bit abou how to use it before the class? You would have to ask the managers of the site first, as there might be rules about that, regarding insurance, photos. Ask about capturing the names on the graves. What is WRONG with my cousin?

So herez the thing. My cousin stays in London while I stay in Leicester. I was in London for a year and we 2 had stayed nicely. When i moved to Leicester I lost track of him. I went bak to London like 6 months later n i find him very quiet. His hair was over-grown, his mustache overlapped his lips n he was very down. He lookd depressed to me. Bullied by my friends, help?!?

Tell your friends you have to have an important talk with the teacher and ask them if they can wait outside the room, after or before class. And maybe you could even call your teacher ahead of time to ask if she can spare some time before or after class. If you have everything planned out ahead of time, then you will end up doing it. If this is really important, then you have to do it. I hope it turns out okay :)

50mb Broadband still being charged �45 Plus 100mb extra �10 ?

My 50 meg broadband 12 month contract finished with Virgin about 2 months ago at the time when I took it out the price was �45 ( Without the phone line ) the thing is the same package is know �35 ( without the phone line ) So I rang up Virgin and was told that I would have to leave Virgin Broadband for 90 days and join again after 90 days to be able to get 50MB at �35 I mean is this right ? Also 100MB broadband is available in my area and if I upgrade to that I would have to pay �10 extra on top of the �45 and the total would be �55 a month even though 100MB Broadband is �45 a month without a phone line. So I don't no if I should leave Virgin for 90 days and then join them after 90 days and go for the 100MB at �45 ? Please can someone help me is there any other way around this ? I don't want to use Dial Up for 90 days :( Thanks

No other downloads are happening either. what the hell? And i'm buying this game a long time after any DLC or the release date to the servers wouldn't suddenly become congested at 75%? HELP. Also it tells me to say the average speed of my cable in the settings. I have 20 meg broadband but the options are just different cables and i don't understand it. Please help!

What would happen if I went to a doctor for this?

A year and a half ago I was trying to punch my brother because he hit me in the stomach with a shovel but he blocked it and I hit the side of my hand on a post instead. Hard to understand how I did it, but anyway I fracture my hand. I never had it put in a cast or brace or anything and my hand still really really hurts. I can hardly use it, and I have no strength left in it. I can't even hold hands with my boyfriend because it hurts too much. :( I can use my thumb and the next finger as always, but if I try to use the others it kills. Sometimes I seriously fall to the groud clutching it and nearly crying. It hurts a lot. I had an x-ray about 4 months after I fractured it, and they didn't see anything and sent me home. Which really ticked me off because obviously it's not okay. I just went to a walk in clinic. If I went to a better like at the hospital or something would they be able to see anything in an X-ray? What would they have to do to fix it? I'm absolutely terrified of doctors. I had an X-ray when it happened, that's how I know it wad fractured. But I had a driving test coming up and I couldn't be in any sort of cast so I sucked it up. Which I really regret now. The thing is, I'm an avid photographer and I plan on getting a degree in photography. I need my hand for that (it's my right hand) and I don't think my hand is even going to make it through college, because it's just getting worse every month. So, how awful would treatment be for my hand and how would they fix it? Would I need to some stupid specialist? I really am terrified of doctors.

Keep your lens at the subjects eye level. Only use the flash when necessary, learn how to sut it off. Train your eyes to recognize good lighting, study paintings and movies for composition and lighting. Get a tripod. Get a remote shutter release. Get close to your subject, don't be shy. You have a fine camera, all cameras are tools, in the right hands any camera can take super photos. Have fun with yours.

I can't think of what it is called! You make it completely dark, and set your camera to a long exposure. Then you shine a flashlight and makes shapes and words or whatever until the picture is done taking. Somebody help me with what this is called, please! Thank you so much.

External Flashes/Flashguns?

I am getting more into lighting with my photography.. And I am looking into external flashes/flash guns.. but I don't COMPLETELY understand them. What do I need to set two flashes and have them fire when the camera fires? Do I need a certain type of flash? I use a Canon T1i and haven't worked with lights (flash, strobe, ect.) I'd go with Perfect Portraits, it has less gender bias so would appeal to men as much as women, you don't want to discourage half your potential market. Also Pretty Portraits could be seen as having a slightly excluding, elitist tone, maybe if people don't feel that they're pretty they might not want to go there for fear of being judged, I'm sure that's not the case at all, but these things do pop into your head on a subconscious level as a customer. I think Perfect Portraits also sounds much more professional, and people do look for quality when making their choice. Best of luck with your business.

Why Are So Many Bands From Tempe, Arizona?

There's always something to do in the area, particularly because its a college community. As one persone mentioned, there are a lot of music festivals year round and with it being a university, it attracts people from all over. The weather is awesome, and I've been living in east phonix all my life so I've been pretty close to tempe for a while now. I really like it. Also, having lived on campus this past year, I got to actually be out and about around mill ave and other places in the area. If the band members are STILL students, then there is a really good chance that theyll be somewhere in the area, maybe doing local gigs and maybe even living around the area. Yes it gets hot... really hot. So hot you can practically SMELL it. Personally I love the heat though. That Louisiana guy said its uncomfortable. Im sorry but I think the humidity is worse. I'm not at age to work but I can buy a camera for $200-250 to sell photography prints in my family's decor store and at craft fairs and such. Digital Photography Q: shoot w/o card (what should I choose?)?

I keep it off on my cameras. There is no memory card to save to so I don't want to take a chance I will forget to put a card in it and then not have my photos stored anywhere. You could shoot all day and then realize that there was no card and you don't have the photos.

Which camera is better for professional photography, a nikon d700 or canon 5d mark ii?

I started a photography business about a year ago. Now, I have been asked to do a few weddings and big events. My only problem is that I don't have a camera that works well in a low light setting. I'm looking to buy a camera that will deliver when I do weddings but also will be perfect with children, seniors, family and couple's portraits. I have the Canon 40D along with the 24-105 IS USM lens and I do a lot of action photography and everytime I use TV or AV mode and I zoom the lens barrel in to around 35mm or above and the aperture is raised above 4.0 it comes up with "Error 01 Communications between the camera and lens is faulty - Clean the lens contacts", also I noticed that in Manual mode the aperture is only been registering 4.0 and not above - is there any reasons why this could be happening?

Client wants to publish my photos to a hair magazine, should I charge a fee?

Im a photographer who recently had a studio session with a client, and her models. She is a hair stylist and we were under agreement for the price she paid to get all images as digital negatives. I was under the impression the images would be used for her portfolio, and personal advertising, but recently I received an e-mail from her with a "Non-Exclusive Photography License" She was asking me to sign the form and mail it back to her, as she is interested in submitting her photographs to a Hairstyle magazine. I guess my question is, since the magazine is royalty free, should I be charging her per image for the publication of my portraits?
